Leeds Festival 2023: What We Learned

1. Soft Play Makes a Comeback

Soft Play, formerly known as Slaves, returned from a five-year break to perform their new track “Punk’s Dead” at the Festival Republic Stage on Sunday. The song features guest vocals from Robbie Williams, who unexpectedly reached out to the band to express his admiration. Despite some mixed reactions to their name change, the band has received positive feedback for their new music.
2. Jedward Engages in Climate Activism

The Irish duo Jedward made a statement at Leeds Festival by joining environmental discussions and performing on the Climate Live UK bus. They emphasized the importance of climate change awareness and encouraged people to educate themselves and take action.
3. Meekz and His Young Dancer

Manchester rapper Meekz delivered a powerful performance on the BBC 1Xtra Stage with the support of his talented dancers. Among them was 10-year-old Trey Braine, who impressed the crowd with his energetic moves.
4. GCSE Results and Rising Rap Star

GCSE results were announced during Reading and Leeds Festival, and rising rap star TS Lagga shared his success live on stage. He aimed to challenge stereotypes by showcasing his intellect and talent alongside his passion for music.
5. Frozemode’s Festival Debut

The alternative rap-punk collective Frozemode made their first appearance at a proper festival and made sure to make the most of it. Their high-energy set and interaction with the crowd created an unforgettable experience.

Rina Sawayama delivered an electrifying performance at Leeds Festival, embracing her identity as a proud queer woman. In her track “This Hell,” she invited the crowd to embrace their rebellious side and celebrate individuality.

Leeds Festival attendees showcased their love for retro football shirts, representing various teams from different eras. The festival was filled with an array of colorful jerseys from football fans.

Reading artist Songer had the opportunity to collaborate with his idol, grime heavyweight D Double E. Their remix of Songer’s track “04:59” came to fruition after expressing his admiration for D Double E in the original song. The collaboration was a dream come true for Songer and marked a new chapter in his career.
10. Yard Act’s Theatrical Performance

Local Leeds group Yard Act delivered an intriguing performance during their set. They incorporated trenchcoat-clad mannequins on stage, which later transformed into human dancers, creating a surreal and theatrical experience for the audience.
