Former Vice President Mike Pence Doesn’t Mention Trump by Name
In his speech at the Iowa State Fair soapbox, Mr. Pence avoids directly referring to Donald J. Trump by name. Instead, he refers to him as “my former running mate” and “the former president.” Notably, he does not mention anything about the “Trump-Pence administration.”
Even when confronted by a voter who accuses him of treason on January 6, Mr. Pence stays composed and avoids mentioning Mr. Trump. The incident caused some disturbance among the crowd.
When asked about his duties and responsibilities on January 6, Mr. Pence offers to discuss it with the voter, without acknowledging the man’s political agenda.
Unbeknownst to him, the person shouting the question was actually a retired postal inspector who traveled from Colorado for a political performance.
Democratic Heckler Challenges Pence
After the event, the Democratic heckler, David Stelzer, expresses his intention to put pressure on Pence at every opportunity. Stelzer criticizes Pence for remaining quiet for two years, allowing what he considers a disease and cancer to fester in the country.
Stelzer doubts Pence’s chances of winning the nomination or being remembered as a courageous leader.
Despite facing similar questions from fellow Republicans, Pence handles the heckler with composure.
Pence responds by stating that it is un-American to believe that one person can single-handedly choose the American president. He asserts that when faced with a choice between Trump and the Constitution on January 6, he chose the Constitution and always will.
