CNN  —  Four former employees of a Mississippi daycare are facing child abuse charges after a viral video surfaced showing an adult wearing a Halloween mask and scaring the children in their care. On Monday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuting attorneys “met with the parents of the children involved in the incident at Lil’ Blessings Child Care and Learning Center and informed them of the possible criminal charges the law would allow them to pursue,” a news release from the sheriff’s office says. “I admit it was very hard to watch these videos,” Sheriff Kevin Crook wrote on…

HOUSTON — You have seen this before. The Yankees and Astros played a close game. Houston finished with more runs. This two-step is especially true at this time of year and at Minute Maid Park. It is redundant. Rinse and repeat. The Yankees’ Groundhog’s Day is swathed in orange towels flapping and Lone Star flags waving. That is why the Yankees season has come down to this — Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes.…

CNN  —  Americans and Britons once smugly viewed political uprisings, governing meltdowns and self-defeating errors as the eruptions of unstable countries and immature political systems. No longer. And China and Russia couldn’t be happier. The humiliating resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss after just 45 days in power on Thursday was just the latest governing fiasco to rock the two great democracies on either side of the Atlantic. Britain has reeled from crisis to crisis in recent years in a way that has left allies who once viewed the country as an exemplar of good governance baffled at its…

BANGKOK: Near Bangkok’s Chinatown, there are at least 40 authorised gun shops – some of which offer to handle all the gun licence paperwork.  A new handgun can be bought legally for about 85,000 baht (US$2,200). Buyers who fork out a little more can possibly get a permit in two weeks – a fraction of the two-and-a-half months or so that it usually takes.  The ease in obtaining a gun reflects how lax Thailand’s gun control laws are, said critics. There have been calls for tighter gun control in the country after a mass shooting at a nursery in the…
