A new space radar has recently been commissioned by LeoLabs in Western Australia as the “sixth site around the Earth”, according to LeoLabs President Terry Van Haren.“The Western Australian Space Radar is actually two radars, and it’s our sixth site around the Earth and radars nine and ten,” he told Sky News Australia.“But these two radars are very large surveillance systems, they are surveying all of low Earth orbit here in the Southern hemisphere.“The two radars here in Collie, Western Australia work in unison with our other radars but more importantly the Kiwi space radar on South Island, New Zealand.”…

KENNER, La. – A new study shows children are dying of fentanyl poisoning faster than any other age group. Many of these deaths are children of drug users who are accidentally exposing their kids. That’s what happened on New Year’s Eve in Kenner, Louisiana, a New Orleans suburb. One-year-old Leo Callero was found dead with fentanyl in his system. His family tells us his mother, Alexis Callero was a heroin user and the state was actively investigating his custody, but it was too late. “It’s really just a numb feeling,” said Leo’s paternal aunt Lexis Staub. “It still feels unreal. We’re just trying…

St. John’s was finally supposed to be looking down at Seton Hall in the Big East hierarchy. St. John’s had the highly regarded transfers, one of the top returning players in the conference and the established coach. That, of course, was only on paper, and the Red Storm haven’t resembled all season the group that was supposed to compete for an NCAA Tournament berth. Their disappointing season continued Wednesday night, while the Pirates’ surge under first-year coach Shaheen Holloway took another step forward. St. John’s blew a 13-point first-half lead and was overwhelmed over the final 10 minutes in a…

Australia’s new $5 banknote will not feature Britain’s King Charles III, but rather a new design that honors “the culture and history of the First Australians,” its central bank announced Thursday. The design will replace the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) said in a statement, adding that the decision was made after consulting with the Australian government. The bank will consult with First Australians in designing the $5 banknote, which could take several years to be issued, it added. First Australians refers to the country’s Indigenous population, or First Nations people, made…

A sign marking the entrance to Bridgeland is down another letter, and the incident has prompted the City of Calgary to step in to assess traffic safety in the area. A crash during Friday’s snowstorm demolished the ‘N’ on the Hollywood-inspired sign, but the driver fled the scene.Calgary Police said it is investigating the incident and they haven’t found any suspects. It was an eerily similar scene last April when a vehicle jumped the curb and brought down the ‘D’; the hit-and-run resulted in charges against the driver. The shrinking sign, at the intersection of Memorial Drive and 9 Street N.E.,…

The city conducted a sweep of the dozens of remaining migrants camped outside a Manhattan hotel Wednesday night who have refused to leave the sidewalk since the weekend. NYPD cops arrived on scene shortly before 8 p.m. and instructed the group of about 25 to 30 people to leave the area outside the Watson Hotel and remove their belongings or face arrest. Sanitation crews then cleaned the sidewalk, where the asylum seekers had been sleeping on make-shift beds — tossing any remaining items left on the street into garbage trucks. A spokesperson for City Hall said “almost all” the remaining…

MANILA: The Philippines has granted the United States expanded access to its military bases, their defence chiefs said on Thursday (Feb 2), amid mounting concern over China’s increasing assertiveness in the disputed South China Sea and tensions over self-ruled Taiwan. Washington would be given access to four more locations under the 2014 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Philippines’ Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez said in a joint news conference.
