Joe Trohman, the lead guitarist of Fall Out Boy, says he is stepping back from the band to focus on his mental health.Trohman, 38, who co-founded the rock band in 2001, opened up about his decision in an Instagram message, which was also shared on Instagram by Fall Out Boy.“Neil Young once howled that it’s better to burn out than to fade away. The American Heart Association released a statement urging people who experience stroke-like symptoms to receive an emergency assessment for stroke. They noted that 10-18% of those with a ‘transient stroke’ have a stroke within 90 days. They hope their guidelines will help clinicians improve the care provided to those at risk of stroke. Every year, 795,000 people in the United States experience stroke. Of these, close to 610,000 experience the condition for the first time, and 137,000 die. Around 87% of strokes in the U.S. are ischemic strokes, which happen when blood flow to the brain is blocked. Transient ischemic…

Wild camping is now illegal everywhere in England and Wales – but protestors aren’t giving up without a fight.Until recently, it was still possible to pitch a tent in Dartmoor national park in Devon without obtaining the permission of a landowner. But the owner of a vast Dartmouth estate challenged this right in the High Court – and on January 13, the court ruled in his favour.Right to Roam campaigners have slammed the ruling as a “tragedy” and promised to “go to war” to challenge it.“[We will] launch a ferocious campaign to fight for our right to sleep under the stars,”…
The new head of the EU’s border agency vowed on Thursday to end the practice of illegal pushbacks and ensure respect of fundamental rights as Frontex is being called upon to boost the number of returns. Hans Leijtens told reporters during a press conference in Brussels with EU Home Affairs Commissioner, Ylva Johansson, that he will adhere to three “guiding principles” during his tenure: accountability, respect for fundamental rights and transparency. “Pushbacks, and of course I’m responsible for Frontex operations by Frontex officers, are not legal so they should be, well, they are forbidden. So I’m responsible for the fact that my people…

When I received the AnkerWork SR500 Speakerphone shown above, it seemed like a useful multipurpose office accessory to make business phone use and video conferences more productive. It turned out as little more than a one-trick device only helpful in corporate and SMB conference rooms. The disconnect in this device’s purpose escaped me at first. It has been a while since my work revolved around conference rooms, and I now connect to video presentations and phone line-connected interview calls. Alas, the SR500 is overkill for my well-stocked multi-phone line remote office. But my feeble speaker phone handsets and external speakers…
The Inflation Reduction Act has put Europe on edge. The continent fears the law promoted by US President Joe Biden will spark an industrial exodus across the Atlantic Ocean, leaving factories and workers in the dust.Among its provisions, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) earmarks up to $369 billion (over €341 billion) in tax credits, direct rebates and subsidies to help companies invest and produce green technology, including wind turbines, solar panels, heat pumps and electric vehicles. But the generous aid, set to be doled out over the next ten years, will only be made available if these products are predominately processed and…
About 2% of the world’s population has the chronic inflammatory skin disease eczema. Researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York report that a new eczema treatment rocatinlimab helped lower symptoms in people with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. Scientists said they also found participants maintained their improved symptoms for at least 20 weeks after stopping treatment. The chronic inflammatory skin disease atopic dermatitis — also known as eczema — affects about 2% of the global population. Ambroxol, a cough medicine available over-the-counter in many countries, is typically used to thin and break down phlegm to clear congestion. In recent years, researchers discovered that ambroxol increases levels of GCase, a protein which allows cells to better remove waste proteins, including alpha-synuclein, which is a biomarker for Parkinson’s disease.During a phase 2 clinical trial researchers found ambroxol was safe and well tolerated. A phase 3 clinical trial of ambroxol will begin this year. Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder. Experts believe that both genetic susceptibility and environmental factors may play a role in the development of the condition.…
