CNN  —  Soon after his 20th birthday, Isaac Danian disappeared from his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in early September 2020, leaving behind a note for his younger siblings that warned them “do not get the vaccine” or “you won’t make it to heaven.” His parents, Abigail and John Danian, told CNN that their son had grown paranoid during the pandemic. They say he started to believe that the Covid-19 vaccine was the government’s way of controlling the population, and that the Covid test was just as dangerous. Before he left home, his parents say, their son told them to…

KUALA LUMPUR: The shortage of eggs in Malaysia was reduced to one million in December last year, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said on Tuesday (Jan 17), following the import of the product from foreign countries.  This is compared to the shortage of 157 million eggs in November and 118 million eggs the month before.  Mr Mohamad said that the reduced shortfall was because the government had temporarily allowed the import of chicken eggs from foreign countries to help reduce the shortage faced by the country for the past few months.  “I reported for duty at MAFS (Ministry…

The yen plunged on Wednesday after the Bank of Japan decided to maintain its ultra-easy monetary policy, defying market expectations that rising inflation could force the central bank to move away from low interest rates. The BOJ kept its yield curve control (YCC) targets unchanged as it concluded a two-day policy meeting on Wednesday. It left the short-term interest rate at an ultra-dovish minus 0.1% and the 10-year Japanese Government Bonds (JGB) yield around 0%. The YCC policy is a pillar of the central bank’s effort to keep interest rates low and stimulate the economy. “Japan’s economy, despite being affected…

Many NBA players have been ejected for many different reasons, but this ejection is certainly unique. On Tuesday night, Milwaukee veteran center Brook Lopez was ejected in the fourth quarter from the Bucks’ 130-122 win over the visiting Toronto Raptors for taking off Gary Trent’s headband when the two were tied up during a play. With 6:40 remaining and the Bucks clinging to a 113-110 lead, Lopez was being held by the Toronto guard and lost his cool, leading to the headband removal and his subsequent ejection. The play set off a brief scuffle between the two teams. Lopez received…

Daniel Jones is aware of the praise heaped upon him by Giants ownership, and the one-time Duke student is smart enough to know what that will mean for his bottom line. It may indeed turn out that the Giants’ refusal to pick up Jones’ $22.3 million fifth-year option before this season becomes a financial positive for him. If that is on his mind at all before the Giants’ divisional-round game against the Eagles on Saturday, though, Jones did not show it one bit. “I certainly appreciate the support,” Jones said Tuesday. “Like I said, we’re focused on what we gotta…

SAN ANTONIO — The Nets were already missing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on Tuesday night, but it was an ill-timed foul by Ben Simmons that did them in as they lost 106-98 to a sad Spurs team before a crowd of 13,532 at AT&T Center. And it was a third-quarter dry spell with Simmons on the bench that proved too much to handle. Keldon Johnson poured in a career-high 36 points to light up the Nets (27-16). But with Durant out with a sprained right MCL and Irving a late scratch with a sore right calf, the Nets…

Newly installed Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort laid out what type of players he will rebuild the roster with during his introductory press conference on Tuesday.”We’re not just collecting talent, we’re going to build a team,” Ossenfort said. “Ego will not be tolerated in this organization. [We want] people that are willing to put the team first every step of the way.”Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill mentioned that he and Ossenfort agreed that the team has recently suffered from a lack of accountability. Ossenfort spent the last three NFL seasons with the Titans, but he gained the majority of his…

Over nearly four years, four prime ministers and five secretaries of state, the UK’s online safety bill appears to be approaching its messy final stages. This can be the ugly bit of lawmaking, even without internecine warfare in the Conservative party to manage. A bust up over freedom of speech forced changes on how so-called “legal-but-harmful” content should be treated when viewed by adults. The rules remain in place for children — and seem likely to go further by introducing the threat of prison sentences, as well as large fines, for senior managers who fail to protect under-18s online.Every element…
