As the new year takes shape, celebrities are fast-establishing the emergent style codes and silhouettes of 2023. The Golden Globes—which, after a controversy-sparked year-long pause, returned on Tuesday—was a bonanza of bold evening wear. Host Jerrod Carmichael illustrated the dapper versatility of thoroughly modern men’s suits. While George and Tammy actor Jessica Chastian coordinated her jewelled Oscar de la Renta gown and face mask—because we are still in a pandemic. Jennifer Coolidge was feeling herself in a Dolce and Gabbana gown that featured a plunging neckline. There were plenty of other standouts this week. Keke Palmer put a high-concept, editorial spin on the…

They were either remotely controlled by humans or ran fixed scripts that allowed for virtually no latitude in terms of how they operated or what they did. Even though I was born in the year Robby the Robot became famous, the robots I grew up with weren’t anything like Robby. They were about as smart as an old toaster. Fortunately, that’s changing. Robotics has advanced considerably over the last decade, partially thanks to the leading work Nvidia has done with autonomous vehicles, much of which translated into autonomous robotics.…

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope recorded a star’s final moments in detail as it was eaten by a black hole. The agency said the process twisted the star into a donut-like shape in the process. When a star gets close enough, the gravitational grasp of the black hole violently rips it apart, belching out intense radiation in what is known as a “tidal disruption event.” Astronomers are using the telescope to better understand what happens, utilizing its powerful ultraviolet sensitivity to study the light from the AT2022dsb “stellar snacking event.” NASA’S WEBB UNCOVERS STAR FORMATION IN CLUSTER’S ‘DUSTY RIBBONS’ The star is located nearly 300…
