Early Friday morning the union announced 710 had voted in favor of the union and only 16 opposed, with about 900 workers eligible to vote in the election. “As the auto industry transitions to electric vehicles,…

Over-stringent banking regulation fosters the stability of a graveyard. UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has embraced that argument, made by his predecessor George Osborne a decade ago. On Friday, he unveiled plans to reform more than 30 measures, including some that Osborne introduced. The package is intended to perk up the financial sector. There are dangers all the same. Some proposals are undeniably welcome. Loosening the EU-imposed Mifid II restrictions might boost analysts’ coverage. The measure had the unintended consequence of making equity research less economic. That was illustrated by last month’s tie-up between AllianceBernstein’s research division and Société Générale’s cash equities business. The merits…
Portugal’s parliament voted for the third time in almost two years Friday in favor of allowing euthanasia, though as happened in the previous attempts the country’s Constitutional Court or president could stop the bill becoming law.Lawmakers passed a bill permitting euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in Portugal, the Speaker of Parliament said, though exact voting figures were not immediately available.Left-of-center parties in the mostly Catholic country were the driving force behind the bill, as they were with laws allowing abortion in 2007 and same-sex marriage in 2010.PORTUGAL APPROVES EUTHANASIA, PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE FOR TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS IN SPITE OF PROTESTSThe bill requires…

If you’re hoping to travel the world while working — or just never commute to an office again — consider a work-from-anywhere job. Although remote work has become a standard option for many professionals since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, most remote work policies still fall short of offering total flexibility.About 95% of remote jobs have geographic requirements, whether it’s a specific region, country, state or city, according to FlexJobs. In a work-from-anywhere job, however, employees work “100% remotely, are independent of location and, in many cases, are also independent of a specific time zone,” FlexJobs career coach Toni Frana tells…
