GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, who came very close to upsetting Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul last month in the predominantly blue state of New York, announced on Wednesday that he’s holding off – for now – on running for Republican National Committee chair, in what would be a direct challenge to current RNC chair Ronna McDaniel.Zeldin, who’s been mulling an RNC chair bid for nearly a month, made his announcement on Twitter and in a statement.”RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel should not run for a 4th term. I won’t be running for RNC Chair at this time with McDaniel’s reelection pre-baked by…
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual medicine offered a novel way for patients to see doctors during a lockdown and hope that technology could alleviate chronic pressure on a strained health system. For many in Nova Scotia, though, the early promise has proven illusory.Tim Neufeld, 28, from Dartmouth, N.S., has been on Nova Scotia’s wait-list for a family doctor for five years. He said in a recent interview that he was left frustrated after several unsuccessful attempts at securing a virtual appointment.“The biggest hurdle is just accessing the system, having to log on between 8:59 a.m. and 9:09 a.m.,” he…
General Motors is moving ahead with plans to install as many as 40,000 electric vehicle chargers in, mostly, rural parts of America. This comes as GM plans to sell exclusively zero-emission passenger vehicles by 2035. These will not be so-called “Level 3” fast chargers — the sort that can charge an EV to 80% of its battery capacity in 30 minutes or so — but will be slower “Level 2” chargers, albeit relatively powerful ones. They will go in places where EV drivers might leave their vehicles parked for a couple of hours such as parks, sports venues or downtown…

As if defenders of software supply chains didn’t have enough attack vectors to worry about, they now have a new one: machine learning models. ML models are at the heart of technologies such as facial recognition and chatbots. Like open-source software repositories, the models are often downloaded and shared by developers and data scientists, so a compromised model could have a crushing impact on many organizations simultaneously. Researchers at HiddenLayer, a machine language security company, revealed in a blog on Tuesday how an attacker could use a popular ML model to deploy ransomware. The method described by the researchers is…

The Yankees are playing the waiting game, and their fans are getting cranky, wanting to see action. Right now, it’s all about Aaron Judge and the tension around the Yankees’ ongoing efforts to re-sign him. But bringing back the slugging MVP has to be the start of the team’s offseason, not the end. The Yankees could keep going by adding Carlos Rodon, the left-handed ace who spent last season with the Giants, or Carlos Correa, the former Astros shortstop who would lengthen the lineup, or both. There has to be at least one other major difference-maker added. Carlos Rodon is…
