After the final seconds ticked away on No. 22 Kansas State’s comprehensive 48-0 win over ninth-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday, thousands of purple-clad fans didn’t storm the field so much as they wandered onto it in celebration.Which was altogether fitting, considering the way the Wildcats methodically trounced the Cowboys.Backup quarterback Will Howard threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns, Deuce Vaughn ran for 158 yards and another score, and a late interception by the Wildcats sealed Oklahoma State’s first shutout loss since 2009 while allowing Kansas State to remain a game behind TCU in the race for berths in the…

HOUSTON — Just as they had done the night before, the Astros built a five-run lead Saturday for a starting pitcher they could trust. The difference this time? That pitcher delivered. Framber Valdez, with his own lackluster World Series history to overcome, gave the Astros the kind of performance they expected a night earlier from Justin Verlander. With the left-handed Valdez’s superb outing into the seventh inning as their guide, the Astros beat the Phillies 5-2 in Game 2 of the World Series at Minute Maid Park. The series, even at 1-1, will resume Monday night in Philadelphia, which will…

The 22-year-old Smith became the youngest regular-season MVP in NWSL history this season. In the second half, Kansas City’s Addisyn Merrick netted an…

Us Weekly has affiliate partnerships so we may receive compensation for some links to products and services. If the holidays were siblings, then it’s pretty clear that the baby of the family gets most of the love (we see you, Christmas). The first-born, Halloween, also gets a lot of attention — especially since it’s an opportunity to dress up in costume and go trick-or-treating. Thanksgiving is kind of like the middle child, sometimes forgotten there in between two other exciting occasions (can you tell I’m a middle child?). We have a point here, promise! Now that everyone is counting down…

The Islanders hung with the champs on Saturday night. And after a stunning three-goal comeback, Anthony Beauvillier landed the knockout blow. If there is a statement to make so early in the season, this is it: Islanders 5, Avalanche 4. The Islanders (5-4-0) now will embark on a Midwest road trip following a streak of victories over three of the top teams from the 2021-22 season: an Eastern Conference finalist (the Rangers), the Metropolitan Division champs (Carolina) and the Stanley Cup champs (Colorado) in their back pockets. Given where the Islanders were a week ago, looking out of sorts on…
