CNN — The Georgia prosecutor leading an investigation into efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election urged the Supreme Court on Thursday to clear the way for the testimony of Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. “The Fulton County Special Purpose Grand Jury seeks to question Senator Lindsey Graham regarding certain activities related to its ongoing investigation into possible criminal activity surrounding the 2020 general elections in Georgia,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wrote in the new filing. She stressed that Graham’s efforts to postpone his testimony would be “unavoidably harmful to the administration…
Lee Zeldin told New York City parents he supports arming school safety agents and also outfitting them with bulletproof vests as statistics showed an uptick in school crimes and weapons confiscations this year. The Republican congressman from Long Island, who is vying to oust Gov. Kathy Hochul from office, made a surprise appearance and briefly took questions during a Zoom meeting Wednesday night sponsored by the NYC School Safety Coalition. “It’s somewhat controversial, but I believe they should be trained armed school resource officers,” Zeldin said. He added that having school safety agents equipped with protective vests is a no-brainer:…
Amazon warned consumer spending was in “uncharted waters” as it issued revenue forecasts well below Wall Street expectations, sending its shares down as much as 20 per cent and deepening the sense of gloom hanging over the tech sector. The ecommerce and cloud computing group, which has become a modern day bellwether for the US economy, said it expected revenues to be between $140bn and $148bn in the fourth quarter, which includes the critical holiday selling season. That was as much as $15bn less than the $155bn analysts were expecting, according to S&P Capital IQ. Amazon projected operating income in…
An upstate New York County has appointed Batman as one of its election commissioners. Keith Batman, that is. Batman — a Democrat from Cayuga County and not the Caped Crusader — will lead the county Board of Elections along with Republican sidekick John Camardo from Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2024 following a vote Tuesday from the Cayuga County Legislature, according to local newspaper The Citizen. CNN — A suspect is in custody after allegedly hijacking a New York City bus Thursday morning with “what appeared to be a firearm,” police officials said. The 44-year-old man allegedly ran in front of the bus with what appeared to be a gun just after 7:30 a.m. in the St. Albans neighborhood of Queens, New York Police Department officials said. After he boarded the bus, the driver “immediately” opened all the doors so passengers could get off, NYPD Deputy Chief John Clune said. There were about 20 to 25 passengers on the bus before the male suspected came on…
This year, a record number of United States-bound migrants and refugees have risked their lives to cross the Darién Gap, the 66-mile mountainous stretch of spectacularly inhospitable jungle between Colombia and Panama. According to Panama’s National Migration Service, more than 151,000 people, including at least 21,000 minors, made the crossing between January and September. The trek can take more than a week, with perils ranging from precipitous ravines and flash floods to vipers and ultra-poisonous spiders. There are also man-made contributions to the landscape, such as unexploded ordnance courtesy of the US military, which practised dropping bombs over the Darién as part of its Cold…
The order to remove masking in schools from Alberta’s chief medical officer of health has been found to be “unreasonable” by an Alberta judge. That same justice also found a subsequent letter to school boards from the education minister was “not a regulation” and caused “widespread misunderstanding” whether it was a prohibition of masking. The decision comes from a case that was in front of the Court of King’s Bench involving parents of immunocompromised children and the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) seeking a review of the Feb. 8 public health order removing the requirement for students, staff or parents…

Ronaldo swap? Anyone?Atletico Madrid’s Champions League exit could improve Manchester United’s prospects of swapping Cristiano Ronaldo for Joao Felix, the Mirror reports. With Ronaldo seeking a January move away from Old Trafford, the forward could yet move to Real Madrid’s city rivals, who can no longer qualify for the Champions League last 16. This will be a blow to Atletico’s finances, and so the Spanish club could be tempted to cash in on Felix, who cost them £113m in 2019. He only came on for the final three minutes of their 2-2 draw with Leverkusen on Wednesday.Paper Round’s view: United…
