Chioma also took a field trip to the Industry City showroom of Raul Lopez’s Luar, the biggest little brand to know right now and the show that will close New York Fashion Week, an honor typically bestowed on more heavyweight brands like Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. Chioma first met Lopez in 2006, when they were both babies and Lopez was just starting out at Hood By Air with Shayne Oliver. Fast forward almost 20 years, and she’s on another studio visit, this time for the designer’s own label—his first name spelled backwards. Lopez really got to showcase his design footing when he whipped up his friend Cynthia Cervantes’s wedding dress in 2018, a confection inspired by Aztec goddesses and Joan of Arc. In fact, Chioma admitted to it being one of her favorite weddings on Vogue.com, which, as a former weddings editor, I can tell you is no small feat!
So please tune in for our chats with Gabriella and Raul, plus my and Chioma’s breakdown of Vogue’s news-making interview with Balenciaga’s Demna, the designer’s first since the brand’s recent scandal, and my behind-the-scenes probing on Chioma’s remarkable Erykah Badu cover story.
