CNN  —  The final expected trial of special counsel John Durham’s probe took an unexpected turn Wednesday, with Durham grilling and rebuking his own witness after the witness seemed to bolster the defense of Igor Danchenko, a key Steele dossier source. The dynamic was surprising because it was Durham’s first witness. And at times, while Durham personally questioned the witness, he strayed from the narrow case against Danchenko and focused more on the FBI’s mistakes in 2016 as it investigated then-candidate Donald Trump. WHO TO RAGE AGAINST? By this point, according to many depositors, it was clear that authorities knew their every move by monitoring their large WeChat groups. Many decided to adapt their tactics ahead of the next planned demonstration – the flashpoint Jul 10 protest in Zhengzhou – including by breaking up into smaller online groups and using virtual private networks, or VPNs, to breach China’s “Great Firewall”. Jiangsu province resident Fiona Xu, who had lost access to around 8 million yuan in deposits, said many depositors felt they had little choice but to go “over the wall”. “Our WeChat group…

Stand by for the big deadline. After a week of emergency moves and mangled communication, the Bank of England underlined its intention to stop emergency purchases of gilts as scheduled on Friday.Defined benefit pensions funds are still scrambling to sell assets to meet collateral calls on so-called liability-driven investments (LDI). The gilts market is fragile, with fears of more market volatility once the Bank’s safety net is withdrawn. There is also a lower-profile deadline approaching next week. It falls squarely into the wonky world of pensions policy that, until recently, would largely have been ignored (or dismissed as desperately boring). But…

So nice they did it twice! Penn Badgley and Domino Kirke found their happily ever after — and even celebrated it with two wedding ceremonies. Badgley and Kirke initially sparked romance rumors in 2014. Four years later, the doula admitted that their early relationship didn’t feel too serious. “I was sort of getting used to being a single mom, maybe a little too used to it. I had a really good thing with my kid and we were like this little team. Penn and I were dating, but it wasn’t nearly as serious as it is now, of course,” Kirke,…

In New York City Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said President Biden must do a better job of securing the southern border and acknowledged it’s “unfair to unload people on to a community” amid the migrant crush affecting the Big Apple. “What we must do in our country is to have comprehensive immigration reform. We all know that we must secure our border, that’s our responsibility as a country,” Pelosi said while visiting a Forest Hills senior center with Queens Rep. Grace Meng early Wednesday. “We also must respect those seeking asylum for appropriate reasons. But we also must understand the…
