From backpackers and adventurers to high-end tourists looking for luxury, India is eager to embrace visitors once more, after months of closures due to the COVID pandemic. The country has now put the painful memories of a devastating 2021 – which brought the country’s health system close to collapse – behind it, quickly revitalising its tourism industry after reopening its borders on 15 November last year.”We are reviving very fast, because we opened up early,” Secretary Arvind Singh, a senior officer at India’s Ministry of Tourism, says.”We were one of the first countries and all expectations are that we will get…
The European Parliament should declare Russia a terrorist state for the “intimidation and destruction of Ukrainians as a nation,” according to a strongly-worded resolution being drafted by the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) and seen by Euronews. At least two other political groups, Renew Europe and the European Conservatives and Reformists, are preparing similar texts, Euronews can confirm, increasing the odds for a formal declaration to be issued by the hemicycle as early as next Wednesday. The groups plan to put their resolutions, which could be eventually merged into one, to a vote during next week’s plenary, where they would necessitate a majority of MEPs…

Walmart is gaining popularity with richer consumers looking for savings at a time of high inflation, boosting its third-quarter results even as it agreed to pay $3.1bn to states that had sued over its role in the US opioids crisis. The cost-cutting retailer, known for its appeal to cash-strapped families, took a larger share of Americans’ grocery budgets in the three months to October 31. Three-quarters of those gains came from shoppers with annual incomes of more than $100,000, executives told analysts.“Regardless of income levels, families are more price-conscious now,” said Doug McMillon, Walmart’s chief executive. What does your doctor really think about your condition and health concerns? For more than a year now, patients have been able to access and read the observations doctors write down about them during a visit. The clinical notes can come with surprises. Patients may be amused to find out they’re described by their physician as “well-nourished,” “well-groomed,” “pleasant” or “normal-looking.”“’He is not ill-appearing or toxic-appearing.’ That’s the best review I’ve ever received,” one man wrote on Twitter after reading his doctor’s notes. But patients may also be taken aback by comments referring to them as “obese” or mentioning their marijuana use.…
London has lost its crown as the biggest stock market in Europe — and to Paris, not Germany. Some Britons have reacted with pearl-clutching horror. Understandably so. UK equities have de-rated sharply. And the French capital has always been London’s pushiest European financial rivalBut Paris’s market capitalisation of $2.8tn only tells part of the story. And both exchanges pale in comparison with the performance of the New York juggernaut.UK stocks have performed poorly, it is true. The FTSE 100 index is up less than 10 per cent since November 2016, compared with about 45 per cent for the Cac 40.…

Stocks surged Tuesday morning after the US government reported that wholesale prices rose at a far less dramatic rate than expected. That news come just a few days after another report showed that the pace of consumer price increases was also slowing. The Dow was up nearly 200 points, or 0.6%, in midday trading. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose 1.4% and 2.4% as well. Investors are hoping that the cooling inflation pressures will lead the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by smaller amounts in the next few months, following four consecutive historically large hikes. CHOOSING THE MIDDLE PATH International relations lecturer I Made Anom Wiranata from the Udayana University’s Faculty of Social and Political Science, said: “If President Widodo acts according to the will of the United States and other countries, he will be seen as a weak leader. On the other hand, he will not be considered as a president who keeps quiet about what is happening in Ukraine.” So, the Indonesian president has chosen the middle path, he said. “Because after all, if the G20 activities were boycotted by one country, it would be a ‘slap’ to the host.” Mr Widodo has…
