The relentless flooding is taking an emotional toll on farmers in northwest New South Wales, who are only just recovering from several years of drought.
One canola grower outside of Warren, Glen Whittaker, says heavy rain has destroyed majority of his crops and he’s on track to lose up to $2 million this year.
Mr Whittaker has been growing canola, wheat, and sporadically chickpeas for over two decades and after recovering from drought, he will now have to come to terms with the severe floods and said it was “certainly testing people”.
“After the drought, you probably said you were happy enough if you didn’t have to deal with another one of these,” he told Sky News Australia.
“The drought certainly was probably a bigger challenge but we’ve got to get to the end of this wet season or flood event yet to see how we go.”
