Controversial figure Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in the US this weekend, following new charges brought by British authorities.
The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed Andrew Tate faces seven further counts of rape, alongside charges for alleged sex trafficking and child pornography. His brother, Tristan Tate, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
These alleged offences reportedly occurred between July 2010 and August 2017, according to the CPS. The brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing in previous statements.
Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the Crown Prosecution Service, stated these decisions followed a new file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police. This brings the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven, he confirmed.
US Marshals confirmed to the BBC that the Tates are now in custody, with a US Department of Justice spokesperson explaining the arrests are “pursuant to extradition proceedings.” The CPS has formally requested their extradition from the US, given both are dual British-US citizens.
Joseph McBride, a lawyer representing the Tates, released a statement after their Saturday evening arrest, claiming “the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent.” He described the new UK charges as a “political hit” designed to counter a defamation action filed by the brothers in the US.
McBride asserted, “America does not do Britain’s political dirty work.” He expressed confidence that a competent judge would see the facts, leading to the brothers walking free.
The Tates already face a list of 21 charges in the UK from alleged offences between 2012 and 2016, with prosecutors confirming these for May 2025. Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants in 2024 to return them from Romania, where they are based and under criminal investigation. The brothers lost a legal bid in June to learn the names of their UK accusers.
