A Texan man is facing felony charges after allegedly pulling off a substantial cattle fraud. Payton Dean Carroll, 25, is accused of purchasing 77 head of cattle with dud cheques, totalling over $159,000.
The alleged scheme saw Mr Carroll acquire the livestock from Buffalo Livestock Marketing, Inc. The Leon County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the charges of felony second-degree cattle theft in a release issued on Saturday. The total value of the transactions reportedly reached $159,604.03.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division launched their inquiry on July 17, following an initial report of the alleged crime. This swift action underscores the vigilance within the state’s agricultural sector against such deceptions.
