The Mets begin their 2022 postseason play Friday night at home against the San Diego Padres, and they have a New York sports figure in attendance to root them on.
Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will be one of the 41,922 people at Citi Field watching the Mets begin their playoff journey. Joining Wilson will be Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson.
This isn’t Wilson’s first Mets game of the season. In May he attended a Mets-Cardinals game, where he saw Pete Alonso hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 7-6 win.
Wilson made his season debut last week in the Jets’ 24-20 win at Pittsburgh. He went 18-for-36 with 252 yards, a touchdown, two interceptions, and a receiving touchdown off of a trick play.
Wilson will take in some playoff baseball before playing the Miami Dolphins at home on Sunday.
Mets pitcher Max Scherzer will get the start for the Mets on Friday, with Buck Showalter opting for him rather than Jacob deGrom, waiting until the Mets are facing elimination or in the NLDS to pitch the ace.
Wilson has been to many New York sporting events since being drafted by the Jets in the 2021 NFL draft.
He was at the Rangers’ Game 7 win over the Penguins in the first round of the 2022 NHL Playoffs, was at a Yankees game in June, and was at an Islanders playoff game in the 2021 NHL Playoffs.
