A shoplifter went beserk inside an Upper East Side CVS store this week, attacking two workers and then two responding NYPD cops with a metal padlock he’d stolen, authorities said.
Eutano Barnard, 41, entered the CVS on Lexington Avenue near East 87th Street around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday and snatched up about $65 worth of merchandise – including four locks and six Red Bull drinks, cops said.
As two workers tried to stop Barnard from leaving, he whacked both of them in the face with one of the stolen locks, cops said.
The employees managed to flag down two officers assigned to the 19th Precinct.
As the cops attempted to arrest him, Barnard allegedly walloped both of them with the same lock, police said.
He was ultimately arrested and taken to Metropolitan Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Barnard was hit with a laundry list of charges, including robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, assault, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing a police officer, authorities said.
The two store employees refused medical attention at the scene.
The two officers were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition with minor injuries, cops said.
The metal lock, as well as all the stolen items, were recovered at the scene.
The 19th Precinct tweeted a photo of the two injured officers Thursday.
“Known criminal violently robs @cvspharmacy: injures employees & cops,” the tweet said. “After robbing Red Bulls & locks the suspect fled — punching & assaulting two employees with the locks & attacking two responding cops in the same manner. Officers gained control & arrested the suspect again!”
