A woman, 42, and two men aged 20 and 17 respectively have now been held suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and the attempted murder of the victim in Greater Manchester
Police have arrested three people after a man was stabbed in an Aldi supermarket car park.
The 62-year-old was stabbed four times at the Aldi store near Salford Precinct in Greater Manchester, on December 10 and remains in intensive care.
A woman, 42, and two men aged 20 and 17 respectively have now been held suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and the attempted murder of the victim.
Police allege the incident occurred after “the victim was purposely followed and targeted.”
As a result, police have said they do not believe there is “any wider risk to the community” and they continue to patrol the area.
Injuries to the victim are not thought to be life-threatening.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Salford detectives have this morning, January 12, arrested 3 persons in connection with the incident: a 42-year female, a 20-year male and a 17-year-old male.
“They have all been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and the attempted murder of the victim.
“GMP continues to appeal to members of the public to come forward if they believe they may have any information about this incident.”
Police initially investigated the possibility of the incident arising after an attempt to steal the man’s shopping, but have since ruled this out.
Detective Superintendent Ryan Davies, of GMP’s Salford District, said: “Whilst we have arrested three persons, the investigation remains in its early stages. We are keeping an open mind.
“Our investigations to date have not found evidence to suggest that the victim was robbed or that stealing anything from him was the motive for the attack. Our assessment remains that the victim was purposely followed and targeted.
“We have a team of detectives dedicated to investigating numerous lines of enquiry in an effort to establish the motive and bring any offenders to justice.
“Uniformed and detective officers continue to patrol the local area, carry out further enquiries and are providing reassurance to the local community.”
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward about the attack, particularly those in the area between 4pm and 5pm on Tuesday.
“Any information that is forthcoming could be vitally important to this investigation,” Davies added.”I am again requesting that anyone who may have CCTV footage on their nearby premises; or who was in the area at the time and has dashcam footage; or who filmed the incident, should please contact us or submit such footage to our dedicated online portal.”
